A Series of 24 Mistakes

We all know: imagination is always better than real life. Images in your head always look better than when you try to actually make or realize them. And if it is not like the image in your head, you have failed, right? But are you sure? Could these failures perhaps lead to something beautiful? Could it perhaps lead to your own personal creative self?

Main Visual Poster Competition

Make a series of 24 mistakes: drawings, designs, forms, shapes, stories that fail. Start with creating one failure, and react in the next failure upon the previous one. Each mistaken drawing, design, form, shape, story, etc., is a reaction to the previous mistake. Where does this series lead to?

For the first project of the camp, I chose to design the course poster by handwriting the title repeatedly. Using a variety of paper, tools and paints, I used the failures of the process to stimulate more development.

INDEPENDENT LARGE POSTER

This workshop utilizes the atrium on the fifth floor of the department building as several randomized blocks. All participating students are assigned to different areas. Some of them are connected together, while others are scattered all over the place.

I have drawn an L-shaped area like a walkway in this program. It immediately reminded me of my own tourist experience in the Kinmen Civil Defense Tunnel. There were a lot of wars occupied there in the past due to its location. In the past, all the residents in Kinmen were trained as soldiers, and there were air-raid shelters and civil defense pit everywhere. When I was walking in the confined space of the tunnel as a tourist. Sometimes it was as if I could hear the militia marching in those days. A side note mentioned, "Cannon launches, people down. Cannon sounds, people run." People don't have to make any effort to catch traces of the wars in all parts as if the smell of smoke and nitrous is still thick on Kinmen.

In addition to the pavement poster imitating the civil defense pit on the floor, I have also attached the audio file I kept at that time to convey my feelings at that time.

There were two brothers in the same space when I was in that pit, both of whom seemed to be no older than 11 years old. The older brother took his brother's hand and looked at it, repeating similar sentences: "War! War! There are so many wars! Brother, have you seen how many houses have been destroyed? Do you see how pathetic it is? We were so lucky not to be born at that time!"

The moment when I recorded the audio file because of being shocked by the war and children’s words,  I realized I was no different from the kids. My feelings are only imaginary, I cannot really empathize how scary the war is.
