Sewing

This story is about repairing trauma. A letter written by the main character, a tailor, to the person she misses was read out by the narrator while the tailor reached her hand into different memory scenes to gather various doll body parts of that person. In the end, she sewed them all together to get a repaired doll as a symbol of her trauma healing and reconciliation. As the story progresses, the audience also follows and pieces together the whole story. The entire animation is made of fabric and sewn to create a patchwork texture.
Soundtrack
The theme song is based on the symbolic song "Rainy Night Flower". The audience can't hear the tune because the long notes are played every four seconds. It only sounds like some sound in the background. It is not until the final sewing of the body that the music is played at normal speed. At the end of the film, the sound of a man humming the song reveals the time and space background of the animation.
Literature Research
Set in the 1950s during Taiwan's White Terror period. It started with the 228 Massacre, also called 228 Incident, was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan that began on February 27, 1947 which was violently suppressed by the KMT-led Republic of China government.
Plot
The tailor reaches into her memories. She finds a man's legs in a rice paddy. She finds the body in the red building in Dadaocheng. She finds his feet on the reeds by the river. She finds his hands in the prison. Finally, she found the last piece in the center of a cloth ball. The ball visualizes the part of her heart that she does not want to mention. She carefully unwrapped it. Inside is very soft and full of flowers. Years of emotions and memories have been growing under the solid protection, and it is not until now that they can be released.
